Origin of the name and product description: The "oval San Giuseppe" orange takes its name from the hamlet of Villa San Giuseppe, located on the northern outskirts of Reggio Calabria, specifically at the mouth of the Gallico stream, known as "The Golden Basin" for the high-quality agricultural produce grown there. The oval orange, also known as "belladonna," is grown primarily along the valleys of the Gallico and Catona rivers; it is harvested from May onwards. Product characteristics: The shape is, as the name itself suggests, oval, with a slightly furrowed base. The peel is thin and leathery, orange-yellow in color, with a fine or medium grain. The pulp is orange in color, characterized by a sweet and pleasant flavor, a small number of seeds, and a high juice yield. Among the blond varieties, it is the latest to ripen, ripening between March and April and remaining on the tree until spring.
