Turf grass

The turfing has aesthetic ,recreational, sporting, and environmental functions.
In relation to these uses , the turfing can be classified in various types for each use we adopt different species , cultivars, mixtures, implantation techniques and specific management , normally not suitable for other types. Despite the fact that some turfing can be considered in more than one category, it's convenient to distinguish turf grass also from a terminology point of view (those of recreation areas and sports fields) and grass roofs (sown or wild , typical of technical turfing , agro-technical , agricultural.

  • A well articulated classification proposes 6 types:
  • Ornamental turfs
  • Recreational turfs
  • Sports turfs
  • Technical turfs, agro-technical
  • Agricultural turfs for natural conservation
Hydroseeding
  • Turfing techniques which enable to check the erosion of soils with high sensitivity, such as:
  • Road Grading
  • Landfills
  • Landslides
  • Reinforced soils
  • Gardens

We mean Hydroseeding when we cover the upper layer of soil with a complex mixture, distributed hydraulically by a hydroseeder compressor.

The mixture, which is distributed over the soil, is made up of seeds, glue, fertilizers, and other substances, according to the functions that are required for the finishing product.

The reason for this technique is that of grassing bare soils more or less subject to erosion.

In most cases, the presence of erosion leads to the necessity of a temporary mechanical protection able to allow vegetation to develop and assume the anti-erosion role that it is intended for.

In addition to this protection, in many situations it is necessary to correct difficult soil conditions or mitigate heavy weather conditions that would make turfing difficult, if not impossible.

For this reason, the mixtures for hydroseeding can be very different from each another, varying in complexity because of the functions they must carry out.

An essential component of the hydroseeding mixtures, apart from the three mentioned bases, is surely the mulch: a blanket which provides mechanical protection and also regulates humidity.

Types of hydroseeding
  • Depending on the type of components present in the mixture, hydroseedings are distinguished by:
  • Enhanced hydroseeding: llows grassing of areas where normal hydroseeding would not obtain suitable results; the system consists in applying a natural blend spray containing mulch wood fiber in one single application.
  • Thick hydroseeding: allows revegetation of embankments also of maximum slope and in any case, in environments with critical conditions , such as sterile soils, reinforced soils, highly irregular slopes. The system consists in applying hydroseeding in various steps using natural products only.
  • Fibre matrix linked hydroseeding (hydraulic biomat): coating of a surface by applying an anti-erosion matrix (Soil Guard) mixed with other natural products, Covering and adhering totally to the ground prior to re- planting, in particularly critical conditions , in alternative to thick hydroseeding and /or the use of a biomat.
