The cultivar takes its name from the Ciaculli hamlet in Palermo, where the variety was discovered, but also from its later ripening period compared to the locally grown Havana mandarin. The Tardivo di Ciaculli mandarin ripens in March. Its intense aroma, very thin orange peel, and the presence of the seed make the Tardivo di Ciaculli mandarin a distinctive and unmistakable appearance and flavor, known and appreciated throughout the world.
