Italiano
Native to the Vulture area, it was introduced to Puglia over 50 years ago. It is highly vigorous, has a spreading habit, and a thick crown. It is self-sterile. It has good resistance to cold and scab. However, it appears susceptible to fly and moth attacks. Its high productivity, fruit size, and high oil content are some of the characteristics that have favored its spread over the last 15 years. Its late ripening and difficulty in detaching the fruit, even with mechanical means, are two factors currently limiting its spread.
